Registration of residence permit and D visas in Ukraine

- Is it necessary to apply for Visa D in order to obtain a residence permit?

All foreigners require a D visa, except citizens of the following countries: Russia, Moldova, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, and Uzbekistan. Citizens of the abovementioned countries, in the process of obtaining a residence permit will simply have to once leave and enter back into Ukraine at the final stage of the procedure.

- The period of compulsory registration in Ukraine, after receiving a residence permit

After receiving a residence permit in Ukraine, you should register within 30 calendar days. If the foreigner has no address, we can offer our legal address. 

- Can I apply for a residence permit in Kyiv, if the registration is in another area of Ukraine? 

Documents for obtaining a residence permit is better to file in Kyiv, where they will be considered.  

- I don't have a company where I can get a job and a work permit in Ukraine. What can I do? 

You can create such a company for yourself. For this you will have to:

  • register your own legal entity;

  • hire a Ukrainian director;

  • take the position of an employee yourself and get permission to work.

Later, after receiving a work permit, it will be necessary to notify the Kyiv Employment Center of the change of director for you as a foreigner, based on the already received work permit.

- For how long is a work permit issued? And is it possible to renew it? 

The time frame for a permit can range from 6 months to 3 years. The time frame itself depends on the basis on which you get the permit, such as the length of the contract or the work you need to do. 

You can extend this permit, if necessary. 

- Can a foreigner's work permit be revoked in Ukraine?

Like many permits, work permit can be revoked or cancelled. For example, it can be revoked: 

  • if you don't pay the state fee; 

  • if you fail to file a work contract in time;

  • when submitting misleading information.
